frosty morning | Londonderry, NH Children’s Photographer

Wow… November. How did that happen? It has been such a busy year for me personally and time is just flying by, but I’m so happy to sneak in sessions when I can — even if on frosty November mornings. It was was so great catching up with this family, it had been over a year since our last session. Little C has gotten so big and ‘more boy’ and ‘less baby’ — which is good since he’ll be a big brother soon!

If you ever wonder how sessions go with three year olds — they start out like this, all buried in mom’s coat… and then…

CBBlog1… two minutes later, they’re all “let me show you how loud I can yell!” This guy was a ham and did SOOO well.

Good luck choosing your fav, because I couldn’t!

For some reason, I just love this photo below… not set up or anything, they all just walked away from a family pose like this.CBBlog10CBBlog11(5)CBBlog11CBBlog12CBBlog13

It was so nice seeing all of you! I hope you enjoyed your extra long sneak peeks!

bit of whimsy | Auburn, NH Children’s Photographer

This shoot was a little different for me and simply done just for fun. And despite the fact that I didn’t have an entirely willing participant, I’m happy with how it came out. And look at me, blogging it like a big girl! I RARELY (or ever!?) blog anything just for fun or of my own kids? (guess I need to look back to see if I have!) Meet my daughter. She’s 4 going on 16. You could say that she is the epitome of sassy. When I finally splurged on a Tutu Du Monde outfit, I told her about it and how I wanted to do a REALLY special shoot with her – she was all game. But alas when the day arrived she gave me about 5 mins of her time and then told me she’d rather play with our neighbors. Such is life with a 4 year old. Never fear, dear friends — this outfit will be with me for a long time so I’m hoping to get some other sweet girls in it!  Thank goodness for those 5 minutes and her semi-attention, because I was able get a few shots that I will forever cherish.

You can see our sweet neighbor in a few of these, I had a separate little mini shoot with her as well, which I hope to post at some point. These two have only known each other just over a month – they are peas in a pod. I sort of can’t wait to watch them grow up as friends– and then whip out photos like these when they’re teenagers and in the Jimmy Fallon “ew” and “oh my gah” stage. They’ll either love me or hate me. For now, I will suck in every last ounce of sweetness they will give me. I love her. I love them. THIS is why I love photography.

drive by mini | Auburn, NH Family Photographer

What’s up with the name of this post?? Well, it sort of went down just like that. A friend who has been wanting some updated photos for quite a while texted me to see if I was around because it was a perfect autumn evening for photos. I was home and actually toting my camera for my kids and neighbors’ kids as they played in the yard, so she piled her family in the car and was at my house in 10 minutes — and when I say she arrived at the BEST and most precise time for evening photos, I’m not kidding… the light can not get any better than that my friends!

Get out of here with these two perfect kids! GAH. They were so good. We busted these photos out in 10 minutes and they didn’t make a peep as we hurried through poses to catch the last bit of sun.

Maybe you’re saying — Wow, did they walk through the woods to find that awesome spot? NOPE. This was literally on the side of my driveway (get it? drive by mini? ♥) We have massive amounts of landscaping to do at our new house but I got to tell ya, we have these amazing pockets of light and woods and just all things I love for photos… so when I’m planning my landscaping over the coming years, you can pretty much guarantee that I will be planning little photo sets for each deliciously lit spot. I might even shed a tear or two when these fallen trees go, they make a perfect bench… unlike my husband who will probably cheer while they’re being heaved into a wood chipper.BeckBlog3

“I want a mini session! I want a mini session!” I know I’ll get a few inquiries after this post so I’ll just say it right now, I don’t typically book random mini sessions. I have found that they aren’t entirely cost effective for me and they go against the way I like to shoot and run my business. In most cases, even if I keep the session short (which I have a hard time doing since I’m a huge over-shooter!), I still spend nearly the same amount of time traveling/editing/posting/managing orders as a full session but I’m getting paid less! And I’m not a huge fan of back-to-back minis either, I know some photographers who will do 10 or more in a day — and that’s just not me. I like spending time with families, letting kids warm up to me, finding cool spots, walking around, etc., without worrying about my next 15 minute time slot! And let’s talk about light for a minute… golden hour, that’s my favorite time to shoot — AN HOUR! Which makes it nearly impossible to shoot all day. And can we say, stress? Yuck. I like shooting, I LOVE it, I like looking for light and at your pretty faces, not at my watch for my next time slot. So, there you have it, I’ve never had a ‘day of minis’ in the past.

I’m making no promises but here’s the deal, I live in an awesome neighborhood now and there are SO many good places to shoot — never thought my driveway would become a favorite spot – weird! In any case, shooting in or near my neighborhood eliminates travel time for me which is a big deal since I’m trying to minimize time away from my family, so I’ll be re-thinking this whole idea of mini sessions and likely trying to work it into my 2015 plan/pricing or find some sort of middle ground so that it doesn’t compromise the way I like to run my sessions. Hopefully that’s a glimmer of hope for those of you who have been trying to get on my calendar!

Are you sitting down?? This is a long one, FULL of so much cute and squishy. I don’t even know where to begin with this sweet girl — this might be my biggest over-share ever, but I don’t care, the world needs to see this beauty and her AMAZING mom. You can feel the love exuding between these two and filling the room. She was all smiles for our whole session. Six month olds are easily one of my favorite ages to photograph!

Mom wanted to make sure we got a photo showing those itty bitty pearly whites — and there they are! HBlog2HBlog4HBlog5HBlog6HBlog7HBlog8HBlog9REPLACE

Because shooting outdoors is always my preference when possible, we managed to sneak in a few minutes on this gorgeous (but chilly!) day and I am SOOO happy we did. These ended up being some of my favorites even though they were shot in only the last 5 minutes before Miss H started showing signs of needing a nap! HBlog18HBlog19HBlog20HBlog21(5)HBlog21(6)Best mom ever. xoxo.HBlog21

ray of sunshine | Auburn, NH Children’s Photographer

I can’t believe a whole year has gone by since I photographed this precious girl at only a few days old. Since these are friends of ours, we had big plans to have a fun-filled day to be followed by her one-year photo shoot at a local orchard. Well, the fun happened… and so did the clouds and chance of rain. Literally while the grill was being fired up and the rest of our family was changing out of bathing suits and getting ready for a BBQ, we were running down the road to find a decent spot before the skies opened up. In the end, it all worked out and this pretty backdrop along the country road worked perfectly.

Oh this  precious girl… she’s a beauty.BLOGCL2Per my usual, I can never pick ‘just a few’ for a blog post… so here’s a bunch of my favorites. I’m imagining a beautiful wall gallery in their new home (currently being built!) There will be so much wall space to fill with photos of this gorgeous girl.

And this one… this one… deserves a BIG frame. One of my favorites.BLOGCL7BLOGCL10BLOGCL12BLOGCL14BLOGCL15

I would certainly be remiss if I didn’t include a few candids from our fun during the day, and a few of her handsome older brother.

Happy Birthday sweet girl, you are SO loved by SO many. In case you can’t get enough of her, here’s a quick slideshow that includes a few more (and there’s music!)

Now that the leaves are beginning to turn – goodbye summer (*tear rolls down cheek*), I’m beginning to get inquiries for fall shoots. I’m very sorry to say that I’m still not currently taking new clients/sessions. We moved into our new house about a month ago and JUST got internet and cable a week ago. My list of things to do with the new house and just life in general is a MILE long, forget the fact I have three of my own kiddos, which means school, homework, soccer, dance, birthdays, etc. (my own little guy just turned two and I haven’t even done HIS portraits yet!) I’m just not ready to take on much more than the few sessions that have been in the works for a while now. Sorry to disappoint those who have asked (some more than once or twice!) but at this time, my family is my biggest priority and unfortunately everything else just has to come second (*sigh*). Thank you to everyone who still asks even though they already know the answer, it is flattering to say the least.
