I’m going to be upfront in saying that this post may make you hungry, especially if you have a sweet tooth (like me!). A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to spend a few hours at Chickadee Hill Cakes in Sandown, NH. Not only do I get all of my celebration cakes for birthdays, baby showers, etc. from them, I also get all of my smash cakes for my special birthday portrait sessions from them as well. Clients are always so impressed with the cakes, and look forward to the leftovers even after they’ve been smashed! Here are some of the amazing wedding cakes on display at the shop.
Shara, the owner (middle photo), began her business out of her home in 2002, she moved to her current location in 2009. Like other stay at home moms, besides enjoying the time with her children, she also enjoyed keeping busy with a hobby – which was cake decorating. After taking a few cake decorating classes, she began making cakes for friends and family. And then those friends and family members told other friends about her and those friends told their friends…, and so it began – Chickadee Hill Cakes was born! My first cake from her was actually for my baby shower in 2007, so I guess I should thank my sister for my obsession with Chickadee Hill since she ordered my cake.
It’s really too bad they don’t have fun at work….
Just last year, they made over 200 wedding cakes, not to mention the countless cupcakes and occasion cakes.
The wooden sign below made me smile. On the day I visited, everyone was hard at work on cake pops, fillings, buttercream and sugar work.
It was pretty fun to watch all the steps that go into the cakes (and cake pops!). Everything is a piece of art, and it’s amazing to see the skill that goes into each little piece. I’m not kidding when I say there are probably more steps involved when making a sugar rose petal than growing actual roses.
The shop itself is so nice, and smells OH SO GOOD.
I had so much fun spending some time with Chickadee Hill Cakes. Of course, I can not wait until my next celebration so that I can indulge in some of the goodness that I photographed! Thank you for having me!
